Set them up for success
This is the start of your dogs grooming life. We want to make sure they get a positive and fear free introduction. Whether they are a curly cockapoo who will need a lot, or a barely haired boxer who might not need professional grooming again. We want to set them off to the best start possible at an affordable price to make puppy grooming accessible for all
Puppies first groom
Once puppy has had their second vaccination, we advise booking their first groom. Our introduction sessions don’t need to be block booked as a package. They are individual, just like your pup. This allows you to book as many or few as you and your dog need.
Your pup will go home with a bow or bowtie, smelling gorgeous and with a photo commemorating their first groom. They will also receive a brush and comb for you to practice brushing at home.
Each session will last about an hour and costs just £25. There are no limits on how many sessions your puppy can have up until they are 5months old.
First Groom
Based entirely around play, we will introduce your pup to the sights, sounds and smells of the grooming parlour. We will trim nails, clean ears and trim any bits of floof around the eyes. This session is designed to let them build confidence in the environment. By using a play based method the items that may otherwise frighten become fun. The pup is able to view the grooming process as positive rather than petrifying.
It's all great fun and they will go home tired and ready for a good long nap
Second Groom
This time we will build on your dogs confidence. They’ve seen and heard it all. Now they will get to experience but only what we feel they could cope with. Puppies go through fear phases and yours is just about in the middle of one about now. So we don’t want to do anything other than build on their confidence. We will bath them based on how confident we feel they are. If we think they could manage, it will be their full body, but sometimes it’s just their feet. We will always work with YOUR dog at THEIR pace. We then dry and trim as needed. Returning pup to you looking and smelling fabulous
Full Groom
Over their next visits we will build up to offering their full groom. We advise that for curly coated dogs this is around the 5months stage age this is when typically their adult coat comes through and their fur can Matt. How many sessions you choose to have is entirely up to you and your dog. If you feel they need more, we can see them as often as you like. We use specialist puppy shampoos that are both mild on their skin and conditioning for their developing coats. So even weekly bathing won’t hurt. And we all know, puppies like to explore all the sights…and smells they can find.
Common questions
My breeder says not to groom until….
We hear this a lot. We aren’t quite sure where this myth started or why it is being perpetuated. But early grooming is not only excellent for socialisation, but vital for a dog that might need lifelong professional grooming. As soon as they have had their jabs and can go out safely, we advise getting them in for a session asap. An early positive start can mean a life of stress free grooming.
Could i stay and watch?
Typically it’s better for pup to be left. Not only does it make it easier for them to know that this will be the procedure from now on, but it also makes it less stressful. They can tend to spend the groom focusing on getting back to their human rather than the groom itself. So enjoy the quiet time, have a coffee and we will let you know when to collect your pupper. If you really can't bare to leave them, we have a glass fronted salon where you can see every inch of the groom so can watch on without distracting pup.
I don’t know how I want them groomed
That’s ok. Whether there is a breed standard trim or a comfortable manageable cut, we can help advise on how best to amanage the coat based on your lifestyle, how often you want to come in and what’s best for the dogs coat. Feel free to bring along any photos you've found that you'd like and we can talk through how best to achieve that look on your furry friend. We offer all types of grooming, from full clip offs to hand stripping to just coat maintenance. Whatever is right for you and your dog we can talk through and help give you advice on how best to achieve the look that works for you both.
My Dogs breed should be hand stripped, can you do that?
yes absolutely. We are fully trained and well educated on hand stripping, carding and maintenance of all types of coat. So if hand stripping is the grooming path you’d like to choose we would be more than happy to discuss this with you or chat through the alternative options too see what would work best for you and your dog.
I'd quite like to learn to groom my dog myself. Could you teach me?
Yes of course. Whilst we believe that professional grooming should always be the foundation of a puppy’s education, we are more than happy to work with owners to help them either maintain the coat between grooming sessions or to take over grooming entirely. Just speak to us during your puppy sessions and we can discuss the best option for you and your puppy.
Why do the puppy grooms stop at 5months?
whilst your pup is still a puppy until they are around 18months, in terms of their coat and grooming needs they typically start growing their adult coat through at around 5 months. So this is the time we want to have a good full cut and make sure we are on top of that puppy coat to limit the matting caused by the thicker, more wire textured adult coat coming through underneath.
